Ranch Oyster Crackers

Ranch Oyster Crackers are a seasoned cracker recipe made with ranch dressing mix. They’re delicious on their own, or on top of soup or chili!

Snack lovers will adore these Ranch Oyster Crackers! They’re a tasty treat to enjoy while watching sports with a beer (my personal favorite) or for topping soup and chili.

They’re also great for entertaining—just put a bowl out and let guests dig in while they’re waiting for dinner or more appetizers.

They start with a packet of ranch seasoning mix, a few herbs, and spices, and they transform into an irresistible appetizer or snack that is frankly hard to put down.

The recipe comes from a church cookbook from the 80s. I tweaked the recipe just a little—mainly cutting it in half—the original recipe made SO many crackers!

  • Oyster crackers can be found in the same aisle as the other crackers at your local grocery store. Look for the unseasoned, unsalted variety.
  • Ranch dressing mix lends tons of flavor to the seasoned crackers. Find it near the salad dressings at the grocery store.
  • Garlic salt and dried dill add even more flavor.
  • Vegetable oil (you can use corn oil, canola oil, vegetable oil, olive oil, or even melted butter) helps all of the seasonings stick to the crackers.

How to make ranch oyster crackers

Start by preheating the oven to 250°F. Then, place the oyster crackers on a large baking sheet. I like to line the baking sheet with a silicone mat for easy clean-up.

Then, measure the vegetable oil in a measuring cup, and whisk in the ranch dressing mix, dried dill, and garlic salt.

Pour the oil mixture over the crackers, and toss the crackers with your hands or a spatula until they are coated.

Place in the preheated oven, and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the crackers are starting to turn golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.

You can serve them either warm or at room temperature.

FAQs

Can I use butter instead of vegetable oil?

You can substitute an equal amount of butter for the vegetable oil in this recipe.

Can I substitute fresh dill for dried dill?

Use 2 tablespoons of chopped fresh dill in place of the dried dill.

Are ranch oyster crackers dairy free?

Almost all ranch dressing mixes contain dairy. However, you can make your own dairy-free ranch dressing mix using this recipe.

What to do with seasoned oyster crackers

  • Sprinkle them on top of soup or chowder
  • Put them on top of a bowl of chili
  • Use them in place of croutons in salad
  • Crumble them on top of mac & cheese
  • Include them on a cheese board
  • Eat them plain!

  • 1 (9 oz) package oyster crackers
  • 1 (1 oz) package ranch salad dressing mix

  • Preheat oven to 250°F. Place the vegetable oil in a large bowl. Stir in the dill, garlic salt, and ranch dressing mix. Stir in the oyster crackers, and toss gently to combine.
  • Spread the oyster crackers onto a large sheet pan, and bake for 15–20 minutes, or until golden.

Notes

You can substitute 2 tablespoons of fresh dill in place of the dried dill. 
Don’t have vegetable oil? Use olive oil or even melted butter instead.
