Ingredients: – 1 soft French roll, cut into 1 inch cubes (about 2½ cups of cubes) – 1 tablespoon melted butter – 1½ tablespoons sugar – ⅓ cup milk – 1 egg – ½ teaspoon vanilla – Pinch of salt

Place the cubed bread into a greased 8x4 inch baking dish  (a loaf pan). Drizzle with melted butter. You can also use 2 (8 oz) ramekins for individual servings.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the sugar, milk,  egg, vanilla, and salt until the eggs are completely incorporated.

Pour the egg mixture over the bread. Press down lightly with your hands so the bread soaks up the liquid. 

Bake at 350°F for 23–25 minutes, or until the top springs back slightly when tapped. It will be lightly golden brown on top. 

Serve with your favorite toppings, such as whipped cream, caramel sauce, fresh fruit, chocolate sauce, bourbon sauce, or Nutella (warmed until it's pourable).
