Ingredients:
– 2 cups flour
– 2 cups light brown sugar
– 1 stick butter, cold
– 1 egg
– ½ teaspoon salt
– 1 cup milk
– 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
– 1 teaspoon baking soda
– ½ cup chopped walnuts
– 1 (8 oz) bag Heath bits
Cut the butter into
half-inch pieces.
Place the brown sugar, flour, and butter in a large bowl. Work the butter in with your fingers until it's in pea-sized pieces. Set aside 1 cup of the mixture.
Stir the baking soda and salt into the flour mixture.
Then stir in the milk,
vanilla, and egg.
In another bowl, add the nuts and Heath toffee bits to the 1 cup of reserved flour mixture.
Toss gently to combine.
Pour the cake batter into a greased 13x9 inch pan. Top with the Heath/nut mixture.
Bake at 350°F for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Let cool, then cut into squares and serve with whipped cream.
Tip: substitute 6 chopped Heath bars for the Heath toffee bits if you'd like.
