Grease a 8½x4½-inch loaf pan. Preheat oven to 350°F.
In a large bowl, whisk together 1½ cups all purpose flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, ½ teaspoon salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ½ teaspoon nutmeg, ¼ teaspoon ginger, and ¼ teaspoon cloves.
In another large bowl, cream together ½ cup butter and 1 cup sugar with a hand mixer or stand mixer until light and fluffy.
Add 1 teaspoon vanilla and beat in 2 eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
With the mixer on low, add the dry ingredients alternating with ¾ cup pumpkin purée, and stir just until combined.
Transfer mixture to the greased loaf pan and bake for 60–70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let cool for 15 minutes, then gently remove the bread from the pan. Let cool completely.
Once it’s cool, whisk ½ cup powdered sugar and ⅛ teaspoon cinnamon with 1 tablespoon heavy cream just until it’s pourable. Add the additional tablespoon of heavy cream as needed.
Pour the glaze over the pumpkin bread and let it set. Slice and serve.
