Sloppy Joes with Tomato Soup
A can of tomato soup is the shortcut ingredient to these nostalgic sloppy joe sandwiches.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs ground beef
- ¼ cup chopped onion
- 1 can tomato soup (10¾ oz; do not add water)
- ¼ cup water
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- To serve: sandwich buns

Instructions
- Place 2 lbs ground beef and ¼ cup chopped onion in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook until browned, breaking up the meat as it cooks.
- Drain if you’d like, then add 1 can tomato soup, ¼ cup water, 2 tablespoons ketchup, 2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce, 2 tablespoons vinegar, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, and 1 teaspoon salt. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Serve on buns or over baked potatoes.
Notes
Toast the buns for extra flavor: spread a thin layer of mayo or butter on the inside of the buns, and broil until toasted.
You can use any type of vinegar (white vinegar, apple cider vinegar, even balsamic vinegar) that you have.
Topping ideas: a slice of cheese, pickles, pickled jalapeños, banana pepper rings, sliced onion. Coleslaw is also really good inside the sandwich!
Don't need a full recipe? Sloppy joe meat freezes really nicely. Store any extra in the freezer for up to 3 months.
