Baked BBQ Pork Chops

By Kate Shungu ● Updated April 24, 2026

Baked BBQ Pork Chops are an easy, quick dinner that delivers big flavor with only a few minutes of prep. The pork chops bake up tender and juicy, and you can use your favorite store-bought bbq sauce for the top.

Seriously Juicy Pork Chops with Big Flavor

Sometimes, you just need an easy main dish that you can throw together quickly.

These Baked BBQ Pork Chops are exactly that-you can assemble them in 5 minutes, then they’re ready after 30 minutes in the oven. I love that I can make sides, pack lunches for tomorrow, or do whatever else while the pork chops are baking.

I also love that I’m cooking with local pork. Did you know that about one third of the pork raised in the United States comes from Iowa? When you purchase pork at any grocery
store across the United States, you are supporting family farms in Iowa and the United States. As a granddaughter of farmers, that makes me feel good to put pork on the dinner table.

These bbq pork chops are full of flavor, and best of all, they’re really juicy. By cooking the pork to 145°F, it creates a tender pork chop that’s still juicy on the inside, and full of flavor from the bbq rub + bbq sauce combination. This recipe is great for those nights when you just really don’t feel like cooking.

Why You’ll Love this Recipe

  • It’s fast and easy: 5 minutes of prep, 30 minutes in the oven.
  • The pork chops are tender and juicy, because they’re cooked to the perfect temperature.
  • You likely have all the bbq rub ingredients in your pantry already. It’s a simple mix of salt, paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Those spices pair really nicely with the rich, savory flavor of the pork.

Ingredients

pork chops, bbq sauce, brown sugar, and spices.
  • I used boneless, regular-cut pork chops for this recipe (about ¾-inch thick). You can absolutely use thin-cut or thick-cut pork chops for this recipe, just see the notes in the recipe card for how to adjust the cooking time. You can also use bone-in pork chops if you prefer.
  • Use your favorite store-bought bbq sauce.
  • I used regular paprika, but if you want to add a little smoky flavor, smoked paprika would be good here too.

How to Make Baked BBQ Pork Chops in the Oven

  1. Stir together the bbq rub (brown sugar, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder).
  2. Rub the mixture on the pork chops.
  3. Pour the bbq sauce over the pork chops.
  4. Bake until the pork chops reach 145°F (about 30 minutes for boneless pork chops).

How to Determine When the Pork Chops are Done

According Pork.org, the safe internal cooking temperature for pork chops is 145°F, followed by a three minute rest. This creates the most tender and juiciest pork chops that are still at a safe temperature to eat. Here is a chart so you can get to your desired doneness:

  • Medium rare: 145-150°F
  • Medium: 150-155°F
  • Medium well: 155-160°F
  • Well: 160°F

You can use a meat thermometer for this, or just follow the instructions in the recipe card below for how thick your pork chops are.

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Place pork chops in a baking dish.
  • In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Sprinkle the mixture onto the pork chops on both sides.
  • Pour the barbecue sauce over the pork chops. Bake for 28-33 minutes for regular-cut boneless pork chops, or until the pork registers 145°F in the center. Let rest for 3 minutes, then serve.
  • If the pork chops are thin-cut, bake for 22-25 minutes. If thicker, bake for 35-37 minutes.

Notes

If you’re using bone-in pork chops, add 5 minutes to the baking time.
If you’re using thick-cut or bone-in pork chops, add more bbq sauce around the edges of the pan halfway through baking time, to avoid the bbq sauce caramelizing around the edges of the pan.
Leftovers can be kept for 4–5 days in the refrigerator. Reheat in the microwave or in the oven.

I made my own bbq sauce to go on the pork chops. I made the mistake of putting the bbq sauce in with the dry ingredients instead of using it as a dry rub. I drenched the pork chops in the bbq sauce. It was delicious.
