Steak Supreme may sound like a fancy cut, but don’t be fooled. This hearty dish is made with ground beef. It’s a budget-friendly twist on steak night!

Hello, comfort food! This classic dish, known as “Steak Supreme” isn’t really steak at all (it’s made with ground beef). I was pleasantly surprised at how tender the meat gets, and how delicious it really is.
To describe it simply, it’s miniature meatloaves, browned on both sides and topped with cream of mushroom soup. I can see why the recipe creator renamed it Steak Supreme. It’s much more elegant that way. Pork Chops Supreme is another classic recipe with that same fancied-up title!
Whether you’re cooking for family or just want a comforting, hearty meal, this recipe delivers big flavor without the fuss. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did!

Ingredients

- Use whatever ground beef you have (90%, 85%, 80%). The recipe calls for draining the fat, so the type used won’t make a huge difference. I used 85%.
- The ground beef is mixed with onion, celery, breadcrumbs, and an egg (just like making meatloaf). This combo keeps the meat tender.
- A can of cream of mushroom soup can jazz up just about any savory dish! Beef stroganoff with mushroom soup and crockpot pork chops with mushroom soup are two other classics that are in our dinner rotation. And here are 11 other recipes using cream of mushroom soup!
How to Make Steak Supreme
- Gently mix together the ground beef, onion, celery, salt, pepper, breadcrumbs, and egg. I use my hands for this, as it’s easy to be gentle (so the meat doesn’t get tough) and get everything mixed well.
- Shape the meat into six patties.
- Brown the patties on both sides (no oil needed; the beef will release enough fat to keep them from sticking).
- Pour the cream of mushroom soup + water over the top, cover, and cook for 20 minutes. Then, dinner is done!
What to serve with Steak Supreme
I chose mashed potatoes and peas to serve for our dinner. Here are a few more ideas:
- Mac & cheese, a classic casserole style or a 5-minute version
- Buttered egg noodles
- Rice
- Biscuits, like these super flaky biscuits or these easy Bisquick cheddar biscuits
- Roasted broccoli
- Parmesan roasted cauliflower
- Honey roasted carrots & brussels sprouts

I’ve been making a version of this recipe for 40 year. The only difference in my mom’s recipe is that you also put 1/3 to 1/2 can of the soup in the beef patty mixture. The rest of the soup is reconstituted with water and poured over.
Delicious!
I love hearing recipe variations. Thanks for sharing, Gay!
